Styling tips
Start with one focal point
Anchor the room with one larger piece, such as an area rug, a statement mirror or wall art, then build smaller accents around it.
Size the rug to the seating
In a living room, choose a rug large enough for at least the front legs of the sofa and chairs to rest on it.
Layer your lighting
Combine overhead light with table and floor lamps so you can light reading spots and change the mood.
Hang art and mirrors at eye level
A common guideline is to center art about 57"–60" from the floor, and to leave a few inches between a sofa or console and the frame above it.
Repeat colors and textures
Pick two or three accent colors and repeat them across pillows, throws, vases and art for a pulled-together look.
Group accessories in odd numbers
Groups of three or five vases, candles or objects at varied heights usually look more natural than pairs.
